There is Only One Issue - I Do a Solo Show - Ralph Estep Jr.

The Content Creator's Accountant
Ralph Estep Jr. joins me to talk about one of the biggest challenges in podcasting: getting booked as a guest. We break down why so many podcast pitches fail and share real examples of outreach that completely misses the mark.

So Many Bad Pitches
As the host of Financially Confident Christian and Content Creators Accountant, Ralph has seen just about every type of pitch imaginable. He explains what podcast hosts are really looking for and why taking the time to personalize your message can make all the difference.
Ralph also shares the importance of researching a podcast before reaching out. A pitch that shows you understand the show's audience and explains why you're a good fit stands out far more than a generic email sent to hundreds of hosts.
Step One: Does the Show Do Interviews?
Ralph shares how the same people keep pitching a show that doesn't do interviews. This just proves (along with "I hope this finds you well") that the agencies pitching these guests have done zero investigation.
Want to Keep Your Money?
Beyond pitching, Ralph shares advice for content creators about managing their finances. He explains why it's important to have a plan for your money and how working with an accountant can help creators keep more of what they earn as their businesses grow.
If you want to become a better podcast guest, write pitches that get responses, and build your podcasting business more strategically, this episode is packed with practical, actionable advice.

Today we have Ralph Estepp Jr. How.
Speaker BTo pitch a Podcast.
Speaker AHow to Pitch a podcast is where bad pitches get called out and better ones get made.
Speaker AReal examples, real feedback, and smarter ways to get booked.
Speaker AFind him@askralph.com how to pitch a podcast Ralph Estepp Jr. Is a guy that's been really in accounting since he was a little kid.
Speaker AHe's got four shows, Grit and Growth Business, Financially Confident Christian, the Truth Unveiled, and the Content Creators Accountant.
Speaker AAnd that's the one I kind of identify Ralph with.
Speaker AHe's a guy, super nice guy, that really wants to see content creators keep the money they make.
Speaker AIt's hard enough to make it and he wants to make sure that you get to keep it.
Speaker AYou can find all of his shows over@askralph.com the first one I got was.
Speaker BFrom somebody who is a founder and CEO of podcast booking and a YouTube growth expert.
Speaker BAnd he started off by saying this.
Speaker BDear Ralph, and as soon as I read this, I hope this email finds you well.
Speaker BWell, if you know anything about AI, you know that that isn't going to work.
Speaker BBut then he moves on.
Speaker BHis name is something Ahmed, and I specialize in arranging podcast appearance for exceptional guests.
Speaker BYour podcast truly caught my attention.
Speaker BI'm inspired by how you help listeners blend faith and practice to financial strategies.
Speaker BNow I'll take apart.
Speaker BI guess he's talking about my daily Financially Confident Christian show.
Speaker BSo clearly he's listened to it, but he hasn't paid that much attention to it because then he says, I'm reaching out on behalf of Chip Higgins, founder of Bizx and author of BizX Way.
Speaker BHe could share insights that resonate with your audience.
Speaker BAnd he gave me several of those.
Speaker BAnd you can learn more about Chip by going to Chip's Media Kit.
Speaker BWould you be open to having him as a guest on the Financially Christian podcast?
Speaker BWell, here's the problem with that, Dave.
Speaker BI don't have guests on that show.
Speaker BSo for me, that was very odd.
Speaker BIt was cool that he looked it up.
Speaker BProbably had an AI tool that checked it all out.
Speaker BBut then.
Speaker BSo then he waited about five days and then I got another one.
Speaker BHello, Ralph.
Speaker BI hope you're doing well this way.
Speaker BWe changed it up a little bit.
Speaker BIt didn't find me.
Speaker BWell, still telling me about how this guy Chip could help me.
Speaker AYes, of course.
Speaker AThe Just following up email.
Speaker BSomebody then named Hannah Walters reaches out to me from.
Speaker BI don't know where she's from, but hi, you.
Speaker BAlways great.
Speaker BIt's always great when the email Starts.
Speaker BHi, like I know this person.
Speaker BWe've got a group of nearly 50,000 podcast professionals.
Speaker BWe're wondering if you're currently looking for guests for your podcast.
Speaker BWe'd love to showcase you on our network and help you secure top notch guests.
Speaker BLet me.
Speaker BAnd now L e M M e. So I think the AI here is trying to be a little cutesy here.
Speaker BLet me know if you're interested in joining.
Speaker BComplimentary, of course.
Speaker BYeah, I don't think so, Hannah.
Speaker ABut wait, there's more.
Speaker AAnd this is the stuff that drives us absolutely bonkers.
Speaker BThis one looks like it's exactly from the same person but a different email address.
Speaker BThis one came from Ivy Chandler.
Speaker BBut here's the deal.
Speaker BHey, not high to beginning the whole, but hey.
Speaker BAnd all of a sudden this person's network is different.
Speaker BThey have a network of over 40,000 podcast professionals.
Speaker BSo the first one had 50,000, this one only has 40,000.
Speaker BSo this is probably going to get my attention, right?
Speaker BAnd then they asked this.
Speaker BWe're wondering if you're currently seeking guests for your podcast.
Speaker BAgain, if they understood my podcast, it's a solo show.
Speaker BWe'd love to showcase you on our network and help you find high quality guests.
Speaker BAnd Lemmy.
Speaker AOh, go.
Speaker BHere we go again.
Speaker BLemme L e M M e. Clearly using the same tool, probably the same person if you're interested in joining.
Speaker BComplimentary, of course.
Speaker BA lot of complimentary stuff going on here.
Speaker BDave.
Speaker AYeah, this is the law of reciprocity.
Speaker AWe've done something nice for you, you should do something nice for us.
Speaker AAnd I get Another one on January.
Speaker B20Th again from Ivy Chandler.
Speaker BAnd then Hannah Waters goes again, but this time now she jumps the gun a little bit and she says, are you still interested in joining our podcast network?
Speaker BWhy never express any interest in the first place.
Speaker BAnd then she says at the bottom, send a.
Speaker BSkip it.
Speaker BIf this doesn't align.
Speaker BCan I just skip all of these?
Speaker BThis is brutal.
Speaker BI could list 200 others because I get these almost on a daily basis now.
Speaker BWe talk about this on the podcasting morning chat as well.
Speaker BBecause here's the problem.
Speaker BA lot of I'll call them newer podcast hosts, they get these emails and they instantly think, oh, I've arrived, somebody wants to be on my show.
Speaker BBut you've got to ask yourself the question, what are they bringing to your audience?
Speaker BBecause there are a bunch of these, I'll call them, guest hosting hustlers out there who are looking to get people on your show.
Speaker BThere is no value for them on your show.
Speaker BThey're just trying to get you in their network because they think they're going to build one by one.
Speaker AYeah, they get paid not to make great connections, but just to make connections.
Speaker ASo, Ralph, where can people find you again?
Speaker BYou can find all my work@askralph.com that's a s k r a l p h dot com.

Speaker AThank you so much, Ralph.
Speaker AI thought I'd throw in a quick little tip.
Speaker AOne of the tools that I use is, and this is its real name, Less Annoying CRM.
Speaker ASo if you just want to keep track of people and your conversations and such, this is a great tool.
Speaker AAnd the thing I love about it, it's only $15 a month for unlimited contacts.
Speaker AAnd, and while you can do things like funnels, it's really more about keeping information about people.
Speaker AYou can set up tasks to nudge you when it's time to reach back out to someone.
Speaker AIt's a really great customer relation management tool, hence CRM.
Speaker AAnd I'll have links to that out in the show notes.
Speaker AAnd of course, the next time you get a bad pitch, feel free to record that and go to pitchapodcast.com story and upload it there.
Speaker AAnd.
Speaker AAnd if you know someone who was like, oh man, these pitches say, yep, you're not alone.
Speaker AFeel free to share that with them or share it with the person that just sent you yet another really bad podcast pitch.
