Not Just Bad Guest - But WRONG SHOW

Not Just Bad Guest - But WRONG SHOW

Timothy Kimo Brien did a review of Writers drinking coffee on his Find a Podcast About show. Later he had a show pitch to come on the Writers Drinking Coffee. So two points:

  • Tim is not the host of Writers Drinking Coffee - He creates the Fine a Podcast About show
  • What would a finance person want on a show about writing

Takeaways:

  • The episode exemplifies the importance of understanding the podcast's content before pitching.
  • Listeners are encouraged to thoroughly research a podcast prior to submitting a guest proposal.
  • Effective pitches are predicated on familiarity with the podcast's themes and audience expectations.
  • The discussion highlights how misdirected pitches can lead to frustration for podcasters and potential guests.
  • Tim's experiences underscore the necessity of aligning guest expertise with the podcast's subject matter.
  • The hosts advocate for a systematic approach to pitching, emphasizing clarity and relevance.

When I was growing up, we had a dartboard in our basement and then the dartboard was sitting on a bunch of corkboard around the dart board. In the event you had that person that you know wasn't that good at darts but was not even hitting the target, the big round target. And inevitably you would have somebody that was so bad that not only did they not hit the target, they didn't hit the cork board surrounding the target and would actually plant a dart in the wood paneling. Mom was not pleased. And today we've got a pitch that was so far off. Yeah, they were hitting the wood paneling.Oh, we got Tim from Find a Podcast about how to Pitch a Podcast. How to Pitch a podcast is where bad pitches get called out and better ones get made. Real examples, real feedback, and smarter ways to get booked.Pitchapodcast.com how to pitch a Podcast. This one's so bad, you almost need a scorecard. We're going to hear from Tim from the show Find a Podcast about, and, well, you just got to hear it to believe it.

Timothy Kimo Brien

Hey, Dave, this is Timothy Chemo Brian, your guide to the podverse. And my podcast is called Find a Podcast About. That's one of my podcasts. You can find it at findapodcastabout xyz and that's where I help my listeners find their next binge worthy podcast with my Find a Podcast About. Sometimes I get the pleasure of interviewing the podcasters that I'm reviewing and telling everybody about. And this happened with a podcast called Writers Drinking Coffee. I just gotten done interviewing them and maybe, I don't know, six months later, a year later, got an email. It was addressed to Writers Drinking Coffee. But I got it through my email and they wanted to be a guest on the show. On that show, not my show.

Dave Jackson

Nope, sorry, it's not on the board.

Timothy Kimo Brien

And for some reason they thought I was the podcaster for Writers Drinking Coffee. They were trying to pitch a guest that was in the finance world. Now. What about finances and writers drinking coffee go together? Oh, I don't know. Not my podcast. So I was very polite to them.

Dave Jackson

Okay, let's play another round.

Timothy Kimo Brien

I emailed them back and said, hey, listen, I am not the producer or the podcaster for that podcast. I run my own podcast where I review other podcasts. But I'll be more than happy to pass this along to them and let them make that decision.

Dave Jackson

Good answer. Let's take a look.

Timothy Kimo Brien

I got another email back and they said, well, we want to be on your show. We want to be on find a podcast about. And I said, well, does your guest have a podcast that I can take a listen to? Uh, oh, no, no.They just want to be a guest on your show. And I said, well, obviously you haven't listened to my show, because my show is all about other people and their podcasts and providing commentary and review. And I said I would not be interested.

Dave Jackson

Oh, that's not one of our top answers.

Timothy Kimo Brien

And they emailed me again saying, well, why wouldn't you be interested? You know, this guy's got a book out and he's got this, that, the other thing. And I said, but he doesn't have a podcast, so please stop emailing me.Anyhow, Dave, this is, you know, the. The life of a podcaster, where, you know, sometimes we get emails that have nothing to do with the show that we're pushing out there. And, hey, that's okay. You know, just, I would recommend, if you're going to pitch a podcast, actually listen to the podcast and know what it's about. And after you listen to it and you're not sure what it's about, probably then go ahead and email them and say, hey, you know, if they were to said, hey, we've got this guest, and, you know, they received the email saying, yeah, you know, I put two and two together for me and they can't do it and don't continue to write me.

Dave Jackson

Yes, great advice. That's the part that got me is they go like, hey, wait, no, like, somebody actually returned my email because, you know, Tim's a nice guy.If you want to check out his show, maybe get your show reviewed, check out his show, find a podcastabout xyz. Tim, thank you so much for that. I deeply appreciate it. Just a quick bit of housekeeping already straight out of the gate.I have come to the conclusion that we're not getting as many stories coming in as I'm trying to put them out. So I'm going to an every other week. We've got quite a few in the can. But it just dawned on me. I'm like, we're gonna run out of stories. And so if you've been thinking about it again, it's super simple. Just go to pitchapodcast.com story and share your story. And again, in the case of Tim, the bar's kind of low.He just wants you to have a podcast, that's all. Not that hard. And thanks again, Tim, for that. And I'm going to thank you in advance for listening to the show.If you know some other podcaster that's like, I hate these stupid people. Yeah, feel free to send them over to pitch a podcast.com so we can all commiserate together. I'm Dave Jackson from the school of podcasting dot com.I help podcasters. It's what I do. And hopefully this helped you. Take care. Pitchapodcast.com how to pitch a Podcast.
